I found this nautilus in Science News, and I found the bananas at the Garfield Park Conservatory. Painted on a bitterly cold afternoon with CAR and JBR.

Maclab Mural

In my salad days of youth, I painted a mural in the Maclab. The Maclab is a pretty sweet Mac/Linux computer lab unfortunately stuck in a dingy, stuffy, fluorescent-lit corner in the basement of the already oppressive and depressing Joseph Regenstein Library. The director of the lab wanted to breathe some pleasant life into the space while maintaining a contemplative and studious atmosphere, so he commissioned a nature scene spanning the back wall of the lab. His two favorite places (second to Hyde Park of course) are Maine and Colorado, so I crafted some kind of hybrid terrain. The mural is 50′ x 7′ in total, and it’s broken up into two panels by concrete pillar. For materials, I used mostly latex indoor house paint, plus some acrylics. The mural took about 3 months of total work to complete. More pictures (warning, not a true seamless panorama!):
