Entry into the North American Bird Phenology Program t-shirt contest. The Bird Phenology Program is an awesome project of crowd-sourced citizen science! From 1880 – 1970, there was a national program for bird watchers to write down their observations (place, time, season, species, number seen, etc) and mail them into a central location. Now, volunteers are transcribing scans of those cards into a database of free, public bird population and migration data.

T-shirt design commissioned by the Franke Institute at the University of Chicago to commemorate the conference, “The Fete of Disciplines.” The graphic materials for this conference centered around a 1504 encyclopedia, the “Margarita Philosophica,” the title page of which depicts the winged embodiment of wisdom presiding over the seven liberal arts.

Alternative ideas for a t-shirt commissioned by the Franke Institute at the University of Chicago to commemorate a 3-year art installation across campus by Helen Mirra. The Franke Institute ultimately settled on a minimalist design in order to conform to the spirit of Mirra’s work, but here are two other prototype designs:
