Maclab Mural
In my salad days of youth, I painted a mural in the Maclab. The Maclab is a pretty sweet Mac/Linux computer lab unfortunately stuck in a dingy, stuffy, fluorescent-lit corner in the basement of the already oppressive and depressing Joseph Regenstein Library. The director of the lab wanted to breathe some pleasant life into the space while maintaining a contemplative and studious atmosphere, so he commissioned a nature scene spanning the back wall of the lab. His two favorite places (second to Hyde Park of course) are Maine and Colorado, so I crafted some kind of hybrid terrain. The mural is 50′ x 7′ in total, and it’s broken up into two panels by concrete pillar. For materials, I used mostly latex indoor house paint, plus some acrylics. The mural took about 3 months of total work to complete. More pictures (warning, not a true seamless panorama!):

Margarita Philosophica
T-shirt design commissioned by the Franke Institute at the University of Chicago to commemorate the conference, “The Fete of Disciplines.” The graphic materials for this conference centered around a 1504 encyclopedia, the “Margarita Philosophica,” the title page of which depicts the winged embodiment of wisdom presiding over the seven liberal arts.
Instance the Determination
Instance the Determination, prototypes
Alternative ideas for a t-shirt commissioned by the Franke Institute at the University of Chicago to commemorate a 3-year art installation across campus by Helen Mirra. The Franke Institute ultimately settled on a minimalist design in order to conform to the spirit of Mirra’s work, but here are two other prototype designs:

Maclab Logo
This is a logo I designed for the Maclab, a Mac & Linux computer lab at the University of Chicago where I used to work during my idyllic college days. This logo combines the ferocity and nobility of Tux the penguin with the deliciousness of an apple.
Europe, Summer 2006
Here are some sketches from the obligatory jaunt through Europe at the age of 20 with college pals (+ extended famblies, in my case). I ventured from Cortona, Italy to Florence, Siena, and Assisi, then went through the Netherlends and down the Mosel river in Germany by train. I was using a Fabriano 12-color notebook.
